Over 150 Professionals Earn CLD Designation

The Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) Commission is delighted to announce that 152 new CLDs have been accredited since December 2024. This remarkable growth demonstrates the increasing recognition of professional certification within the architectural lighting design community.

The acquisition of CLD certification represents the global benchmark for architectural lighting design professionals. It provides numerous benefits to certificants, including professional recognition and career advancement, quality assurance to clients, and a commitment to excellence in practice.

The significant increase in certified professionals is having a transformative effect on the architectural lighting design industry as a whole:

"The addition of 152 new CLDs represents a milestone for our profession," said Rosemarie Allaire, FIALD, CLD, CLD Commission Chair. "With more certified professionals than ever before, we anticipate an elevation of standards across the industry, resulting in better lighting solutions for the built environment and the people who inhabit these spaces."

This growth in certification aligns with increasing recognition among architects, developers, and building owners of the value that professional lighting designers bring to projects. As more professionals achieve certification, clients gain access to a larger pool of demonstrably qualified lighting designers who have proven their expertise through the rigorous CLD process.

Many of these new certificants took advantage of an expedited application process for FIALD (Fellow Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers) and IALD (Professional Member) members, streamlining their path to certification while maintaining the rigorous standards that define the CLD designation.

The expedited application process for FIALD and IALD members has been particularly successful in recognizing the achievements of seasoned professionals while encouraging them to formalize their qualifications through certification.

This ‘fast track’ application for FIALD and IALD members requires no demonstration of the Domains of Practice or project exhibits. Application fees are waived through June 2025. Annual CLD fees are a discounted $90 for IALD members. Applications are accepted online through the CLD website.
