LIRC Ambassador Spotlight

Dwayne Waggoner,Selux GmbH

As key representatives of LIRC member companies, LIRC Ambassadors are among the highest-visibility profiles in the Lighting Industry Resource Council on the global stage. They work closely with the IALD Region + Chapter Coordinators to engage with the local lighting design community, bolster communications, promote events, encourage networking, and promote the IALD and LIRC.

This edition, the LIRC Ambassador Spotlight features Dwayne Waggoner, Head of Lighting Applications and Culture at Selux GmbH, an LIRC Member company based in Berlin, Germany.

Dwayne leads a team of competent lighting experts at Selux who support their international sales team members with their requests regarding lighting planning, lighting technology and lighting regulations for outdoor lighting. Additionally, he and his team collaborate with the product developers to ensure that metrics for lighting pollution are incorporated within the product design. Together they work with the latest photometric software to ensure their lighting design customers can optimally incorporate the company's products into their projects, and educate them, when necessary, on relevant metrics.

For the past ten years, Dwayne has also taught courses for the Masters of Architectural Lighting Design Program at Hochschule Wismar in Germany. There, he has expanded on his Master Thesis focused on the language of lighting design and how mapping the language in that profession provides insight to one's progress within the industry. Dwayne engages with the students to expand and refine their language of lighting design communication to ensure professional perception.

Dwayne is particularly eager to work with the dynamic coordinators within the IALD Germany Chapter, as he feels strongly that the LIRC's presence should be more widely known in Germany and across Europe: "I would like to use the opportunity to bring more members of the LIRC together, to initially raise awareness to the collaboration. I would also like to use the platform I have at Hochschule Wismar to bring more students to be involved with the IALD and ensure that they too have a voice and a platform."

"I am involved in the LIRC Steering Committee, the Enlighten Europe Judging Panel and I attended and spoke at both IALD Enlighten Europe in Valencia and IALD Enlighten Americas in Tucson. The role of ambassador can uniquely contribute to expansion of the LIRC network, yielding exciting opportunities to engage our members."
