IALD Joins Partners Messe Frankfurt Inc. and the IES in Launching Light Intelligent Building North America

The next-generation event combines the design excellence, education, engagement, and networking of the LightFair legacy with new expansion into interoperability, lighting and controls, and building-level outcomes.

The IALD today announced its partnership in launching Light + Intelligent Building North America, a next-generation trade show and conference co-owned with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and Messe Frankfurt Inc.

Debuting 15 to 18 March 2027 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the event unites architectural lighting, connected controls, software, and building systems integration under one roof.

"Great lighting design is at the heart of great architecture—and it is most powerful when it connects with every element of the building," said Christopher Knowlton, Chief Executive Officer, IALD. "Lighting design no longer exists in isolation—expanding the verticals served by this event not only mirrors the evolving state of the lighting industry but also reinforces the critical role that lighting professionals play at the heart of intelligent, health, and integrated environments. This is an important step in positioning our field for greater impact, visibility, and collaboration across the built environment."

Building upon the legacy of the LightFair trade show and exposition, Light + Intelligent Building North America is designed for architects, lighting designers, engineers, specifiers, agents, system integrators, facility operators, and building-technology teams. The show floor features three distinct zones — Lighting (e.g., decorative, architectural, exterior, and specialty luminaires), Building Technology (e.g., networked lighting controls, whole-building automation), and Accessories (e.g., drivers, optics, sensors, wiring solutions) — while the conference program delivers CEU-eligible education spanning lighting design, codes and standards, health and wellness, integration, decarbonization, BIM, digital twins, and more.

As part of Messe Frankfurt's global Light + Building ecosystem, the North American launch connects regional professionals with international manufacturers, startups, standards bodies, and thought leaders.

"North America is ready for a single destination where the lighting community and the building-automation ecosystem meet,” said Latoya Gooding, Show Director. “This launch delivers a product-to-practice experience — seeing luminaires, controls, software, and services working together — so attendees can specify, integrate, and operate smarter, safer, lower-carbon buildings."

Exhibitor sales open in January 2026. Attendee registration opens in October 2026.
