The Elections Process

The IALD Nominations + Elections Committee conducts an annual election cycle where the voting membership fills leadership positions opening for the coming year on the IALD Board of Directors and the IALD Membership Committee.

  1. The Committee announces a Call for Nominations of candidates to those positions.
  2. The Committee issues an Elections Brochure with the slate of candidates running for each available position.
  3. A six-week Open Voting Period allows voting members (Design Member, Professional Member, and Fellow Member) cast their vote via a secure third-party voting platform.
  4. The IALD publishes Election Results on the IALD website, and announces publicly via email and social media.

The 2027 Elections Cycle

The election of qualified volunteers for service in IALD governance in 2027 spans the better part of 2026.

The cycle includes the following stages:

STAGE ONE: The Call for Nominations (May - June 2026)

The IALD Nominations + Elections Committee is accepting nominations for individuals considered for service on the IALD Board of Directors and the IALD Membership Committee in 2027.

A voting member of the IALD -- Design Member, Professional Member, Fellow Member -- may nominate candidates for any or all positions using the IALD nomination form. (Self-nominations are permitted.) 

Open Positions:

  • IALD President Elect [four-year term, one (1) position open in 2027]
  • IALD Treasurer [two-year term, one (1) position open in 2027]
  • IALD Board of Directors: Director at Large [two-year term, three (3) positions open in 2027]
  • IALD Membership Committee: Committee Member [two-year term, two (2) positions open in 2027]

Completed nomination forms are emailed to [email protected]. (See the form for complete instructions.) The IALD must receive all nominations by 11:59 P.M. (U.S. Central Time) on 5 June 2026.

Being nominated or self-nominated for a position on the IALD Board of Directors or Membership Committee as a potential candidate does not automatically place the nominee on the ballot. Rather, it includes them in the review process conducted by the IALD Nominations + Elections Committee.

STAGE TWO: The Elections Brochure (October 2026)

The IALD Nominations + Elections Committee publishes a document containing the summary of available positions on the IALD Board of Directors and the IALD Membership Committee in 2027, and the slate of nominees to be considered for those positions by eligible voting IALD members. 

STAGE THREE: Open Voting Period (October - November 2026)

All voting IALD member categories (Design, Professional, and Fellow) receive an email when the vote opens. These members can log in to the secure third-party voting platform (eBallot by VoteNet) through their account login on the IALD website to cast their vote.

The voting period remains open for six (6) weeks.

STAGE FOUR: Election Results (December 2026)

Election results are announced via the IALD website, email, and social media channels before the end of 2026. Elected individuals begin their terms on 1 January 2027.

  • IALD Board of Directors: Directors at Large (3 positions)
  • IALD Membership Committee Chair (1 position)
  • IALD Membership Committee: Committee Member (2 positions)
