LIRC Ambassador Spotlight: Sage Russell, LumenWerx
As key representatives of LIRC member companies, LIRC Ambassadors are among the highest-visibility profiles in the Lighting Industry Resource Council on the global stage. They work closely with the IALD Region + Chapter Coordinators to engage with the local lighting design community, bolster communications, promote events, encourage networking, and promote the IALD and LIRC.
This edition, we shine the LIRC Ambassador Spotlight on Sage Russell, Vice President of Specification Sales with LIRC member company LumenWerx in San Francisco, California, USA.
Sage earned his Bachelor of Science and Engineering in lighting from Colorado University in 1999 and immediately dove into a world-traveling career. From hands-on lighting design to project and studio management to instruction and education to serving on the IALD Education Trust Scholarship Committee, Sage remains keenly aware of the interconnectedness of the industry and the people behind the processes.
He stresses the importance of engaging with younger people interested in a future in lighting, encouraging them to pursue education programs, pay close attention to practical design processes and usable professional practices, and embrace the technology and tools advancing the art and science of lighting design.
When asked about the appeal of becoming an LIRC Ambassador, Sage is quick to express his zeal for advancement in technology and technique:
"I share my enthusiasm in the hope of engaging everyone in our industry to understand the entire process from lighting design to construction fulfillment. I want to expose designers to more practical business and construction industry knowledge while uncovering the realities of the design studio environment and process to manufacturers, salespeople, and reps."
Those interested in becoming an LIRC Ambassador or nominating a colleague can learn all about the program, the responsibilities and benefits of the role, and how to apply.
